Griffith University - ​3315AFE: Empirical Economic Analysis

The capstone looks at the empirical/econometric treatment of questions that emerged from the courses in the major. To that end, "seminal" papers are identified (each paper ideally providing a solid econometric analysis of a relevant issue) and used to discuss both the underlying econometric methodology and the empirical results. For example, empirical applications of advanced time series methods and panel data models will be discussed based on research papers.

✔ After successfully completing this course you should be able to:

• Apply aspects of econometric techniques so as to provide understanding of some core underlying theoretical issues essential for competent, practical, economic, financial and business modelling.
• Recognise situations where econometric techniques are appropriate for students studying business, finance and economics.
• Identify problems when assumptions underlying econometric analyses are violated and present methods to overcome these problems.
• Use the statistical package Eviews as a tool in quantifying econometric models.
