We will look at the construction of portfolios to meet client needs and objectives. Using the insights of behavioural finance, we will better grasp the approach and thinking of clients regarding risk. We investigate portfolio theory starting with the Markowitz mean return-variance model. Subsequently we use the capital asset pricing model with its lynchpin measure of risk. Several approaches to evaluating portfolios are examined. Ethical considerations arise in respect to managing client funds and communicating and reporting to the client.
